Photographers’ works win national acclaim
by Heidi RiednerAn artistic eye behind a lens focused on Georgina has developed national exposure for two local photographers.
Peter Pauer and Doug Morden both live work in Georgina and their passion for photography has always been part of who they are, so it was very exciting for the pair to have their work chosen to be printed and distributed by Access Fine Art, one of the leading Canadian distributors of vine prints, posters, canvas reproductions and Giclée prints.
The French term Giclée, pronounced gee’clay, means to spray or squirt, which is how an inkjet printer works, however, it is not the same as a standard desktop inkjet printer and is much larger. In Giclée printing no screen or other mechanical devices are used and therefore there is no visible dot screen pattern. Affectionately referred to as knitting machines for their similar appearance, Giclée prints are a little over a meter wide with the image retaining all the tones and hues of the original.
Established in 1986, Access Fine Art has developed a bestselling line of exclusive canvas reproductions prints created by North American will now include the work of both Mr. Pauer and Mr. Morden.
Eight of Mr. Pauer’s photographs were selected including panoramic colour shots, Summer Cedar Grove and Winter Cedar Grove, taken at Sibbalds Point Provincial Park, and Rainbow Country, a landscape of a barn with a double rainbow in the background snapped just off of Woodbine Avenue. Black and white selections include Weeping Willow and Winter Brush, where were taken at Willow beach.
Two exquisite shots of trees, Windswept and Laying Down Roots, which are quite the hot trend right now, round out the list, according to Kat Taylor of Kat’s gallery in Jacksons Point.
Mr Morden’s colour photograph of two horses taken at a local farm on McCowan Avenue, entitled Inseparable, was also chosen.
In her role as an Ontario sales representative for Access Fine Art, Ms Taylor chose the images by Mr. Pauer and Mr. Morden not only for their high calibre and composition, but because the finished products are true representations of art.
“Anyone can take a picture, but photography is art when it captures the mood and light of a subject.” She says. “It has to speak to people in one way or another.”She adds that she is extremely excited about two of the area’s local photographers being included in the exclusive line, especially since their subject matter is largely local as well.
The photographs were launched the first week of February and were among the best sellers during the Toronto Gift Show, with requests coming from across Canada, as well as the state of New York.
One of Mr. Pauer’s most popular, Spirit Wolf, a beautiful double image of a marshy landscape with the subtle outlines of a wolf appearing in a mist from the watery depths, accounting for 25 per cent of the entire sales from the show, adds Ms Taylor.
All of the pieces are available at Kat’s Gallery and Eustace Pharmasave in Jackson’s Point.
