Royal Ontario Museum visit attempt, don’t bother

Tried to go the the Ontario Museum today. Operative keyword is tried.
You must now check all bags, backpacks, knapsacks, umbrellas etc. before entering.
I am never without my camera gear and there is no chance I will leave my camera bag with several thousand dollars worth of lenses & equipment at the check-in. So that was a no go.
Similar goes for my wife, she used to periodically take our grand-kids to the museum with all the needed support gear for young kids in a backpack.
We never had any issues before, but this must be some new brilliantly inspired rule.
So the ROM is now permanently added to our DO NOT VISIT list.
I’d guess for anyone planning a visit there, don’t bring you camera bag (or any other bag) along.
(The security guard did offer to let us take our camera out and just leave the bag at the check-in. That would have left a bag with a 70-200 IS lens, 19-35 lens, 50mm lens, and 530 flash, about 3500$ worth of gear sitting there waiting for me to come back, not bloody likely.)
